In a world that values speed and instant results, patience stands as one of the most counter-cultural virtues a believer can cultivate. Yet Scripture is clear - patience is not optional for the follower of Christ. It is a fruit of the Spirit and a mark of spiritual maturity.
"Because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."
James 1:3-4
At TFH Biblical School, we dedicated a teaching series in June 2024 to the subject of patience. Our students explored what the Bible says about waiting on God's timing, enduring trials, and trusting the Lord even when the path forward is unclear. The lessons were both challenging and deeply encouraging.
Patience in ministry work is especially vital. The seeds we plant today may not bear visible fruit for months or even years. A child in the orphanage who hears the Gospel may not fully understand it until they are grown. A new believer may take years to mature in faith. Ministry requires a long view - the patience to invest today and trust God with tomorrow.
Waiting on God's timing is perhaps the hardest form of patience. We pray for breakthroughs, for provision, for healing - and sometimes the answer does not come when we expect it. But Scripture assures us that God's timing is always perfect. He is never late, and He never forgets His promises.
Our students shared personal testimonies of moments when patience was tested to its limit. Some spoke of years of prayer before seeing a loved one come to faith. Others recounted seasons of financial hardship where they had to trust God day by day for provision. In every testimony, the conclusion was the same: God was faithful, and the waiting was worth it.
"But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint."
Isaiah 40:31
Perseverance and patience are closely linked. The believer who learns patience also learns perseverance - the ability to keep going when everything says stop. In Pakistan, where Christians face daily pressures and occasional persecution, perseverance is not an abstract concept. It is a daily reality and a daily choice.
We encourage every believer to embrace patience - not as passive waiting, but as active trust in a faithful God. Patience is the soil in which faith grows deepest and strongest.
