At our orphanage, we believe that every child has a unique way of connecting with God's Word. For many of our children, drawing and art are powerful tools for understanding and remembering the stories and truths of the Bible.
"Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it."
Proverbs 22:6
In April 2024, we organized Bible drawing activities for the children at Healing Hands Ministries orphanage. The children were given passages of Scripture and asked to illustrate what the verses meant to them. The results were both beautiful and deeply moving - each drawing revealed how personally the children have taken God's Word to heart.
Creative expression is a vital part of childhood development, and when combined with biblical teaching, it becomes a powerful educational tool. Children who might struggle to memorize verses in a traditional setting often find that drawing the stories helps them internalize the message in a lasting way.
The atmosphere during the activity was filled with concentration and joy. Some children drew scenes from the life of Jesus - His miracles, His teachings, His love for little children. Others illustrated Old Testament stories of courage and faith, like David and Goliath or Daniel in the lion's den.
What touched us most was seeing how the children interpreted God's love through their art. Simple drawings of hearts, crosses, and families holding hands spoke volumes about the hope and security these children have found through the Gospel. Many of them have experienced loss and hardship at a young age, yet their artwork radiated joy and trust in God.
"Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these."
Mark 10:14
Activities like these are more than just entertainment - they are an investment in the spiritual formation of the next generation. Every drawing session is an opportunity to plant seeds of faith that will grow throughout a child's lifetime. We are committed to finding creative and engaging ways to share the Bible with the children in our care.
